Why the World Needs Your Book

The excuses are endless:

Someone else has already written about this subject.

Who am I to write this book?

Nobody will read my book.

It’s too overwhelming.

I don’t know where to start.

I need to do [fill in the blank] before I begin writing.

Maybe I don’t know enough yet to write this book.

What if I fail?

Every author I know—and probably every author you admire—wrestles with doubt, even once they are successful and established. Self-doubt is just part of the process, and part of being a writer. Own it.

Here’s the truth: You have a voice, a story, a perspective, and a collection of experiences that only you can claim and communicate. Sure, someone else can write in the same genre, on the exact same topic, and perhaps offer similar ideas and solutions to certain problems, but that’s still their book written within the context of their unique lived experience. Let me ask you this: Have you ever bought a book that shares the same space in a bookstore or retailer as another book you devoured? Have you ever been allured by Amazon’s “Frequently Bought Together” suggestions? Do you really think another individual can write the exact same book?

Stop with the excuses. You can do this. You’ve been thinking about your book for years. You already have the tools to start. Just get going. You. Can. Do. This.
